They say that it's not what you know, but who you know. There's a truth to this, but it's not the whole truth. In the case of nepotism, you might be given a cushy job and ridiculous salary for being a goofball and bringing very little to a company, but generally speaking, you need to bring value if you want to succeed.
But there's a reason why successful people network. Business is about people and relationships, and when you know people, you discover your opportunities expanding quickly. I've developed a lot of useful skills over the years, and I'm a doer. But I have to be able to apply those skills to something if I want to succeed, and the more people I know, the more "somethings" are opened up to me. For instance, by now I've developed relationships with some pretty incredible manufacturers. This puts me in the fortunate position of entering the market early with exceptional products filling exceptional demand. It ALSO lets me share that kind of opportunity with those who have taken the time to network with me and, because I've spent years as a professional writer and digital marketer, I'm able to share my knowledge with those who want to grow a business alongside me. The fact is, this whole site is devoted to doing my part of networking -- extending myself to others to teach techniques for business opportunity assessment; sharing the opportunities that pass the stink test; and freely teaching methods for building toward success online. (Sign up for my mailing list at the bottom of any page here for a free course on this.) If you've been looking for a big, big opportunity and are ready to WORK in order to hit a home run (sorry ... push button victories are much hyped and rarely happen) consider some of what I know is coming:
This is why I'm passionate about networking. Because we're on the edge of things that can transform the world we're living in, and we're at a point when we need to seriously change some things. Thanks to years of making contacts and thanks to continuous study, I'm able to help you find a position in these areas and more. The only thing I can't do is force our connection. If you can see yourself taking part in any of these, if you want to stay on top of major developments and get in ahead of the wave, I encourage you to sign up for my mailing list and get the latest from me as opportunities open up. But remember ... it's not just about who you know. It's also about what you do. Your part in your own success is being open to learning; then doing the work of learning; then doing the work of applying. We can network all day long with others, but if we fail to take action, we fail. But if you're a doer, and if you really want to change your life, then I urge you to connect here, and let's do "success" together.
