This is a FREE TOOL for smaller websites, and is affordable and SO USEFUL for large websites. So please read on! (You need to be using Google Analytics for your site, which is also free.)
Getting traffic to your website is critical in any kind of business. There are of course plenty of paid methods for driving traffic; there are also free ways like traffic exchanges that take your time, but they generally push low-quality traffic. (Everyone's just trading clicks.)
The holy grail of traffic is building a site that gets lots of organic traffic -- this means it's showing up in natural (not paid) search results on Google, Bing, Yahoo!, etc. This way your clicks are free (after whatever time or investment you put in to get these results) and ongoing.
One of the BIG TRICKS to building organic traffic is to see what terms people are searching for where you're NEARLY on page one of search results. This way, by slightly optimizing that page and/or building more useful content around that topic (and linking to the page that is ALMOST on page one), you can push the page onto page one search results and start getting traffic.
As you continue building content to help optimize pages, your entire site tends to start moving up in search rankings, providing you with new pages that are ALMOST ranking well and giving you the next area for building out new content.
Now, there are several tools that can measure your search rankings (most of them paid), but none of them can tell you which search terms are actually getting clicked, what position you were in for that term when it was clicked, and whether certain clicks are leading to sales (if you sell things on your website).
You USED to be able to get all of this from Google Analytics, but this ended many years back as they moved to https.
However, Keyword Hero restores almost all of this data to Google Analytics as you can see in the image below. So the key to using it is to already have Google Analytics connected to your website. With the two together, you'll be able to start getting data like this:

Analytics alone will NOT provide you with those keywords. Those are the terms people searched and clicked on (see the number of times under "Sessions") over a given period of time. Without Keyword Hero, you will only get (not provided) -- you can see this as #9 in the image, since you'll still get some of these. But most of the data is restored as you can see, and this can hugely help you in your organic traffic efforts.
And although it's not shown in the image, you'll also get the search engine position the keyword was in, so you'll see those that are ranked (for instance) in positions 11-14 and that might easily get pushed up to page 1. This is the goal. Easy wins.
Keyword Hero is FREE for tracking up to 25 pages on a website, and is affordable for larger sites. And to me, this data is gold. SEO professionals used to rely a great deal on this information in Analytics until it was removed. Once again we have access to it, and I highly recommend use use Google Analytics and Keyword Hero together.
